The Suffolk Regiment
The Friends is a stand-alone organisation - totally separate from The Suffolk Regiment Association and the Suffolk Regiment Old Comrades Association.
It is now almost fifty years since the last soldier was recruited into The Suffolk Regiment. Following the amalgamation with the Royal Norfolk Regiment in 1959 the history and traditions of the Regiment have been carried on by 1st Battalion, The Royal Anglian Regiment.
However, as the old soldiers fade away there is a need for an organisation which will make sure that The Suffolk Regiment is not forgotten; an organisation which will keep the memory alive, in the public eye, and make sure that the men who served with the XIIth are always remembered.
The Friends of The Suffolk Regiment has been founded for this purpose. It is hoped that many people will join and all are welcome; families and descendents of Suffolk Regiment soldiers, researchers, historians, collectors, and schoolchildren. In fact anyone who would like to support the Regiment. Former Suffolk Regiment soldiers are also welcome to join as associate members.
It is hoped that amongst the Friends we shall find enthusiastic volunteers who will help out with the Regimental Museum and assist at Regimental events such as Minden Day. The Friends also hope to organise Suffolk Regiment battlefield tours and encourage members to carry out research projects. Membership will entitle you to receive a membership card, a biannual newsletter, special viewings at the Regimental Museum and more.
If this appeals to you please sign up today. Join the Friends and help to keep the memory of Suffolk Soldiers, and the spirit of The Suffolk Regiment, alive long into the future.
